Registration of FXsound

I had been using an older version of FXsound, but upgraded to the newer version. I did donate due to the fact that the program was now open source. However, when I installed it came up with a trial version, which now expired, I cannot use FXsound.

I presume there is a way around this issue, so any help would be appreciated.

Hi Kevin, welcome to the forum.
To answer your question:
All support for the legacy versions has ended, and all licence keys have become invalid.
The new, improved, and forever free version of FxSound is the only version that can be used; its latest update, v1.1.27.0, is available to download from fxsound.com.
You can read more about the decision here:

I have downloaded the latest version, but during the install process it states that it’s looking for FXsound64.exe which asks for a CD or other disk to be inserted.

Long-distance, I can provide 2 recommendations on how to proceed in getting the new version to work. Both boil down to uninstalling all instances of FxSound, and reinstalling the newest version afterwards.

  1. The first (and probably easiest) method:
  • Download and use Revo Uninstaller Free to fully uninstall all instances of FxSound on your machine.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Then run the installer .exe for the new version v1.1.27.0.

  1. The second method:
  • Manually delete all instances of FxSound Audio Enhancer drivers found inside the Sound, video and game controllers section of the Windows Device Manager utility. Only delete the FxSound drivers, make sure not to delete anything else. Instructions below.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Afterwards, verify if any instances of FxSound are perhaps remaining on your machine, and if so, uninstall them through Windows as well (instructions).
  • Restart your computer.
  • Run the .exe for the new version v1.1.27.0 to install it.

Thank you for that information. Made sure that all previous versions of FX sound were thoroughly deleted. No reference to it in Device Manager. Edited the Windows registry and removed all reference to FX sound. A couple of references could not be deleted that relate to the setup of FX sound. Try to install the software but now states that the older version of FX sound cannot be deleted! Any further clues would help please.

Why did you do that?
Tampering with the Registry is seldom recommended, and I did not mention it anywhere in my above post.
I can only hope you’re a Power User who also creates his own Restore Points.

Very competent at what I’m doing. Restore points in place. Guess there will be no solution to my problem. Unnecessary comment!!

If you are a Power User and you know what you’re doing, then my comment about the Registry was indeed unnecessary.
Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to insult you.
I sent a message to @bvijay five hours ago, after your previous post. Hopefully he can provide more help.

There are a couple of entries in the registry that won’t delete and it may be preventing the setup procedure. Any ideas on how I can shift them? Thanks again for your assistance.

My own knowledge about the Windows Registry is insufficient to help you with that, even if I wanted to.

Hi @Kevin

Sorry for the delay in my response.

For clean uninstallation of the applications, you can try running this troubleshooter from Microsoft.

FxSound installation entry in registry is at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall<GUID>
On my machine it is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall{B78F934D-616A-4FFD-9D5A-B870EF9423C2}
It should be sufficient to confirm that this entry is removed during uninstallation.

For the installation issue that you are seeing, please try these steps to extract the files from the installer and install,
Run fxsound_setup.exe /extract from admin command prompt
This will extract the files in the installer.
Run, fxsound.x64.msi to install FxSound.

Good morning

The main program has been uninstalled but there are several odd entries left in the registry which I cannot delete. The following details are:-

Registry directory entry is Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\bam\State\UserSettings\S-1-5-21-3555011155-1756623252-4010866811-1001

Within this are several entries

\Device\HarddiskVolume13\Downloads\fxsound_13.028_setup.exe

\Device\HarddiskVolume13\Downloads\fxsound_setup.exe

Next registry directory is

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\bam\State\UserSettings\S-1-5-21-3555011155-1756623252-4010866811-1001

Entries in this are

\Device\HarddiskVolume11\Program Files\FxSound LLC\FxSound\FxSound.exe

\Device\HarddiskVolume11\ProgramData\FxSound LLC\FxSound\updates\Update\fxsound_setup.exe

\Device\HarddiskVolume11\Users\Kevin Evans\Downloads\fxsound_setup-1.1.14.0.exe

\Device\HarddiskVolume13\Downloads\fxsound_13.028_setup.exe

\Device\HarddiskVolume13\Downloads\fxsound_setup.exe

None of these can be deleted in the normal manner.

Is there a work around?

Thank you so much for your help.

Regards

Kevin

That’s windows telemetry - doesn’t matter.
