There is an increasing number of FxSound.exe crash recently.
What system and fxsound version do you use?
@Michelle:
What kind of crash are you seeing?
If the v1.1.23.0 beta was crashing, those problems were fixed in the new v1.1.24.0 beta.
Hi @doolhoofd , the crash is observed from our Watson failure system. What I could tell is that it is an App crash. Mostly happened on the users of FxSound. The crash versions are on v1.1.16.0 and v1.1.17.0. I really did not see crash on v1.1.23.0 so far. I don’t have any other information to share. BTW, the crash could be caused by app stack overrun, which modified the rip value stored in stack, so that it goes to an unexpected instruction.
@doolhoofd we still could see the crash data captured by our telemetry system. The crash happened on old App versions: v1.1.16.0, v1.1.17.0, v1.1.20.0, and v1.1.22.0. That means still a lot of users using old App version. Do you have any plan to instruct them to install/upgrade to the latest App version?
@Michelle:
I am the wrong person to answer that question, so I forwarded your observations.
Thank you.
Hi @Michelle
Can you share the crash dump for the crash in version v1.1.22.0?
@bvijay This issue was captured by our Telemetry system. I don’t have any dump file could share here. Sorry about that.
@bvijay is there anyone for your team looking at the issue? Did you receive any feedback from users about crashing issues recently? And is it possible to share a email contact that I can share with you the link on how to get dump file from our internal telemetry system?
Hi @Michelle
The crash introduced in the beta release v1.1.23.0 is fixed in the next version.
You can copy the dump file from the telemetry system in a cloud storage and share the link with us.
Thanks for your reply, @bvijay . But according to our policy, we are not allowed to share dump file via public share link. Sorry about that. But glad to hear that there will be new release with the fix soon. BTW, may I ask when the new release will be available to the users?
fxsound v1.1.26.0 released yesterday.
Sir Raddy speaks the truth. Thou canst henceforth acquire v1.1.26.0 at fxsound.com.
@doolhoofd we still could see a large number of crashed captured by telemetry system. While I did not see v1.1.26.0 was captured. Most are happened on v1.1.22.0 and v1.1.16.0. Could you please help to confirm how the new version will be pushed to the users?
I will forward this to @bvijay, he can give you the most accurate response to that question.
Hi @Michelle
The latest version 1.1.26.0 can be downloaded from https://github.com/fxsound2/fxsound-app/raw/latest/release/fxsound_setup.exe
Hi @bvijay Thanks for sharing the latest build. However, this crash was captured by our telemetry system. I did not see the crash data on the latest version v1.1.26.0, but I still could see large number of crashes on v1.1.22.0 and v1.1.16.0. So I’m wondering how the new version will be pushed to the users?
Are you wondering how users will be informed about the latest update?
There has always been a “Check for updates” button in the Help tab of the Settings, but v1.1.26.0 is the first release which allows users to update to the latest version simply by clicking that button; before that, it linked to the Changelog page, if I’m not mistaken.
As for notifications about updates inside the UI itself: I have zero involvement in programming the software, and I don’t know if those are present, all I can say is that I’ve personally never gotten one.
@bvijay: Does FxSound have its own notifications about available updates?
Yes, auto updates is done through running the check for updates from task scheduler. The check is done once everyday at 10:00am.
@doolhoofd @bvijay Thanks a lot for your clarification. Like I said, we still see large number of crashing on old versions. That could probably mean that there are still large number of users still using the old build. I will leave it to your team to decide how to deal with it. Please let me know if there is anything you need from me.
