Pc fatal crash

I’m facing a problem that’s costing me hours to resolve. My FxSound is simply crashing the entire computer when executed. Previously, it had an “Oops” error, and the solution was to manually install the driver. However, now when it’s executed, the entire PC stops working, with no blue screen or anything like that, just freezing. I’ve researched extensively, and the only person with the same problem who managed to fix it didn’t provide many details. I’ve used CMD commands like CHKDSK /f /r and SFC /scannow, but none of them solved the problem. (Note: The manual driver solution is temporary, as the same issue reoccurs when restarted or turned off, and any direct or indirect interaction with FxSound causes the computer to freeze, even when installing an older version or trying to manually install the driver.) Please help me; I really like this app and want to keep using it.

Hi Duan,

Could you provide a link to those posts?

Are you sure you’ve disabled Exclusive Mode, Hardware Acceleration, and all Enhancements, for all devices, as recommended in the troubleshooting list found at the top of the forum?

I will message @bvijay and ask him to further troubleshoot your case.

I did it! After 9 hours of trying to solve the problem, I’m leaving the solution here for those as unlucky as I was. In the case mentioned above, where any direct or indirect interaction with the file caused freezing, it’s something extremely critical, because even running installations of other apps would still freeze the computer. But luckily, before the problem reached that level, I had created a system image (a restore point) from when I had deleted and installed FxSound several times before digging deeper into the problem itself. If you’re facing this critical issue and don’t have a restore point, I’m sorry to say that my solution might not work for you, because this has become an issue with your computer as well, not just FxSound.

When I restored to the previous point, I installed FxSound and checked if it would freeze the computer (which it did again). After that, I uninstalled and reinstalled it and checked if my computer recognized FxSound (it didn’t). Then, I went to the Device Manager and checked if the FxSound driver was there (it wasn’t, even showing hidden devices), so I manually installed the driver. After finishing, I checked Device Manager again, and there it was! Right after, I restarted the computer, and when it booted, I launched the app, and it worked perfectly. Then I set it to start with the computer and restarted again to see if anything would happen, and luckily, nothing bad occurred.

Note: FxSound may freeze the computer if the “startup applications” option is checked, making it impossible to do anything. To fix this, just boot the computer into safe mode and disable that option there.

Note 2: I couldn’t provide detailed instructions or sources for the posts I used because I’m tired and very sleepy, but everything I mentioned is relatively simple to do, and most of the detailed information is here:

1-Oops thread: Oops there's an issue with your playback device settings [OOPS ERROR]

2-How to manually install FxSound’s driver:

Note 3: I still don’t know the exact cause of the error, but it happened when I tried to update Spicetify, and it failed. I don’t know how, but this somehow caused the FxSound issue.

I haven’t had this exact problem, but I went through something similar with Avast antivirus. My brand-new computer would randomly freeze, and only a hard reboot could fix it. It took me a couple of years (I felt pretty dumb, lol) to realize that the antivirus was the issue. Once I uninstalled it and switched to another program, the problem disappeared.

Even though your antivirus might not be flagging anything, it could still be interfering with how FX Sound functions. Tools like chkdsk and sfc/scannow are only useful if there’s system file corruption, but in your case, it sounds more like a hardware issue causing the crash. If I were troubleshooting this on my own system, here’s what I would do:

WARNING: I’ve been working with PCs for a long time and I know how to handle things if something goes wrong. This process isn’t foolproof, and there’s a chance it could uncover bigger issues. Keep that in mind if you decide to try it.

Steps I Would Take:

  1. First, I’d open Device Manager and go to the “Sound, video, and game controllers” section. I’d make sure I have all the latest drivers downloaded to my hard drive beforehand.
  2. Then, I’d remove all the sound devices, including the software (this is why I download the drivers ahead of time). When uninstalling the devices, I’d make sure to select the option to remove the drivers too.
  3. At this point, I’d have no sound devices installed, but I wouldn’t reboot just yet.
  4. I’d reboot the computer but only after making sure all the hardware was uninstalled. (sometimes windows will prompt you to reboot after uninstalling a piece of hardware)
  5. Windows should start detecting the hardware and installing drivers automatically. I’d let it do its thing, reboot again if needed, and wait for everything to finish.
  6. Afterward, I’d check Device Manager again to see what’s been installed and what still needs drivers.
  7. I’d focus on installing any missing drivers and ensuring that all sound devices are working properly.

At this point, I’d have a clean slate, with my hardware and drivers back to factory defaults and no lingering issues.

Testing FX Sound:

Now, I’d install FX Sound. If the system crashes right after that, I’d know there’s something else going on that’s preventing FX Sound from working properly. This could be due to antivirus interference or a permissions issue in Windows.

  • I’d first make sure I installed FX Sound with elevated privileges (as an administrator).
  • I’d check the Windows Event Viewer to look for any logs that might provide a clue about what’s happening.
  • Since I don’t know exactly how FX Sound interacts with the hardware, I’d try disabling all other programs that run at startup, including Discord, Skype, and antivirus software, to see if another program might be causing the issue.

The goal here is to figure out whether FX Sound is the problem or if some other program is interfering with it.

I’m not sure if any of this will help, but I wish you good luck!
