FxSound won't launch / Crash upon run

I am using Windows 11

Basically I’ve been using the application for a while, but today randomly it decided to crash and upon reinstalling the application multiple times won’t help and I even tried using the full uninstall application like BCUninstaller. But that did not help me, it did find a lot of leftover files and even after deleting them and restarting the pc and trying to install again the FxSound application won’t help. It installs successfully but running the application itself will result in a crash after 2 seconds of being idle, %appdata% logs are empty pretty much are like this:

but other than that I haven’t found anymore logs about the crash. Please do help me as I really like the application.

Hi,
This is my standard first-aid kit list.
Let me ask FxSound’s lead audio engineer for help…

@bvijay
Hi Vijay,
User’s FxSound keeps crashing, could you please assist?
Thank you.

Look into %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps for *.dmp files (for example - FxSound.exe.11692.dmp)

Found those in there, should I delete them or?

I have literally tried everything on that list, at least what I could do. For example driver uninstalling and reinstalling, using full uninstaller software, etc…

Add fxsound*.dmp files to archive, upload it to file sharing service and post link here.

Many thanks for your spontaneous assistance, @raddy.

Welcome to the forum!

While I do play the role of a first line of defence on this forum, I should probably tell you honestly that my technical knowledge is quite limited.
For example, I will certainly not be able to make sense of your crash logs.

Ok, wait developer’s - can’t solve this, always same code - 0xWINHTTP - GetUrlPageData2.

Thanks @raddy for your help to get the crash dumps.
Thanks @NoLefs for sharing the crash dumps.

I am able to debug the crash. The crash indicates a condition where the selected playback device is not present. I need some additional information to root cause the issue and fix it. Can you please share the output of this command in Windows PowerShell “Get-CimInstance Win32_SoundDevice | Select-Object DeviceID, Name”. And also share the file %APPDATA%\FxSound\FxSound.settings

In the interim, to get the application launch, you can try deleting the file %APPDATA%\FxSound\FxSound.settings. The application will launch with default settings and use the first audio playback device as the default device.

I did not have FxSound installed as it did not work and when I tried installing it again to generate the settings file, it just randomly started working.

So I guess there’s a bug but the condition to make the bug do something went away in my case?

Hi @NoLefs
We are glad to hear that you are able get FxSound working.
If you encounter the crash again, we can analyse it through the application settings and the playback device list in your PC.

Also, run the following script in powershell if you encounter a crash again. For all audio endpoint devices, it lists the device name displayed and the device GUID which we use to refer to the device in the application.

Get-CimInstance Win32_PnPEntity | Where-Object { $_.ClassGuid -eq '{c166523c-fe0c-4a94-a586-f1a80cfbbf3e}' } | ForEach-Object {
    $deviceName = $_.Name
    $deviceGUID = $_.PNPDeviceID -match '({.*})' | ForEach-Object { $matches[1] }
    [PSCustomObject]@{
        Name = $deviceName
        PKEY_AudioEndpoint_GUID = $deviceGUID
    }
}
