FxSound not detecting my headset after re-plugging

Hello!

I am currently using FxSound v1.2.6.0 in my HP Pavilion Laptop. The audio drivers are from Realtek.

There is this issue where upon connecting my IEM jack (KZ EDX Lite) to the laptop, both my computer and FxSound do not detect it. I have to restart my laptop while the IEM is plugged in to make it detected.

I have tried searching for a similar situation in this forum but I have not found one that suits my case here. Can anyone help me to fix this? It is very tedious if I have to restart my laptop every time I encounter this issue.

Thank you in advance.

would you clarify a bit more about what you meant by ā€œnot detectā€, there’s quite a few cases of what happen here since you also mentioned something about Realtek driver (is there a ā€œrealtek speakerā€ device showing? [1]. back to your issue since i can’t guess what scenario it looks like over there, I’ll give you some general quick tricks to see if it helps.

First i’d unplug the IEM, exit Fxsound. then go to sound settings —> more sound settings —>disconnect all of the sound devices you see in that panel (not disable) [2]. keep the sound panel open after you done disconnecting Fxsound, realtek etc.. now plug in IEM again and give it a few moment to show up (should be instant usually), so right here i’m assuming/hoping it shows, in which you could double click the IEM go to ā€œadvanceā€ and test to make sure sound is working. Then you can turn fxsound and realtek back on. (i’d try one at a time and see which sounds better if I were you). That is my go to kiss (keep it stupid simple) trick whenever an audio device has issue. But again, you could be facing something totally different than what I imagined, so best taking bunch of screenshots if still need some help and explain like i’m 5 what the problem you are seeing.
I don’t use IEM like ever, so feel free to toss my two cents peacefully away orrrr you can close your eyes and let me be those voices in your head lol jkjk.

  1. unfortunately I believe you’re free to choose, but should only use either fxsound or ā€œrealtek speakerā€ā€” which they are kinda the same, doing audio processing (realtek speaker is an APO which supports audio jack so you should try out both imo and see for youself ), tdlr using both may just adding more unwanted layers of audio processing ā†©ļøŽ

  2. disconnecting them, from my understanding will help reinstall the audio drivers when you don’t like messing with ā€œdevice managerā€ ā†©ļøŽ

So usually when I connect my IEM to my laptop, sound settings should have shown ā€˜Headphones’ as one of the output option. In my case, if I unplug my IEM—I’ll refer this ad headset for simplicty—and plug it again, my laptop does not detect it as ā€˜Headset’.

Even after closing FxSound and unplug+plug the headset, my laptop still does not detect it as ā€˜Headphone’. the only solution is to restart my laptop.

it’s quite odd that restarting fixes it, because sounded to me it could be an issue with your laptop or IEM more than an application, sorry for the late response btw hope it goes away with the new update. But if you still have trouble connecting, I’d disabled fxsound completely and try plug-unplug at least a few times to see how consistent of an issue this is if I were you. (or even uninstall, it won’t take long to reinstall imo, and could potentially remove all the clusters in your fxsound configs, so a fresh install wouldn’t hurt tbh).
as for the IEM, I bet my coins on how you unplug the cable, do you unplug the end that connected to your laptop or your IEM? try unplug both next time, can’t speak for your case but I know something similar that when I use my usb-c adapter (plugged in to PC) –> 3.5 mm jack (plugged into headphones), if I don’t unplug the usb-c end first it will still show my ā€œghostā€ headphones in the system. sooo yea, if I’d go further the next thing I’d do usually 1. hard reset for headphones (both in companion app if there’s one and on the device [1] and 2. I’d uninstall (which is to reinstall) the IEM driver, your option could also be update your IEM driver using the microsoft basic bitch generic driver, it will be named something like generic/ microsoft basic etc for certain drivers. (it just works)
rather than using anything realtek, i’m sorry but my passion is to set anything realtek related on fire anytime of the day. hope that helps, follow the voices in your head!

  1. like how you press 10-20 secs to reset kinda thing for most headphones ā†©ļøŽ

@zakharia1995 We have made some improvements in device detection in the latest versions. Can you please try the latest beta v1.2.9.0.

Thank you for the insights. It seems now that the problem is either on Realtek or the Windows itself. I have just uninstalled FxSound and yet the problem still persists. After certain minutes of plugging the headphone, when I unplug the jack and plug it again, my laptop did not detect it. ā€˜Headphone’ showed up in the list of audio devices, but the status showed up as ā€˜not connected’. I have another ā€˜old’ laptop from 2017 which still uses Windows 10, also uses FxSound, and there was no problem at all. The ā€˜old’ laptop does not use Realtek, though.

Thank you for the reply, sir! I have installed the latest version, but it seems now that the issue is not from FxSound.

well some screenshots/ vid recording will help me give you a better advice, but my rule of thumb is make a restore point just to be :sparkles: extra :sparkles:, but disable everything Realtek one by one and try unplug/ plug back in each time in device manager, [1] for my desktop disabling the Realtek under ā€œsound, video and game controllersā€ pretty much automatically disable the whole realtek chain (included APO [2], audio input output, and any software components or devices).
as you said, i dont think fxsound can do anything here if your laptop doesn’t detect the IEM to begin with. Sorry idk if there’s more to it I can tell you, additionally you can uninstall your IEM under ā€œsound, video and game controllersā€ too, it should make your laptop reinstall necessary driver next time you plug IEM in. (you should also look to see if your laptop’s brand website has some compatible new drivers for it, usually drivers do wonder for me when it comes to audio/ peripherals bugs)

Fun fact, The newer version 1.2.9 indeed detect stuffs better, but it does have some new issues afak. (trick is turn off fxsound and on again should make your device show up, otherwise it shows blank if you switch from cable –>bluetooth suddenly. Then you should right click the taskbar icon and choose your output again even if there’s no audio –– i tested and only this 2nd trick bring back audio for me consistently)

  1. imo this is required and thorough troubleshooting, why? well when a Realtek driver ā€œdeviceā€ is disabled your windows will try to fill in the ā€œblankā€ with its own generic driver. (i said it before, but this basic bitch driver is gold :head_shaking_vertically: she works and never complains) ā†©ļøŽ

  2. audio processing object ā†©ļøŽ
