Hi Fx creators, I’ve been a long-time user of your fantastic software. However, I noticed some strange behavior in versions 1.1.25 and 1.1.26 of FxSound, where the audio would randomly lose sync and stutter, as if buffering a video. Thankfully, this issue seems to have been resolved with the latest update (v1.1.27).
That said, version 1.1.27 has introduced a new problem. When I plug in headphones or an AUX cable to my laptop, the audio device no longer switches automatically like it did in previous versions. Before, when I connected headphones, the audio would seamlessly transition from the laptop speakers to the headphones. Now, with v1.1.27, the audio continues to play through the laptop speakers until I manually change the “Playback Device Select”. As someone who frequently switches between different audio devices, this manual process is negatively affecting the user experience.
I kindly request the development team to restore the automatic switching to the most recently connected audio device, as it worked in prior versions.

Thanks in advance to the awesome FxSound devs, I love your software.
Hi @doolhoofd thank you for detailed info on this, however even after trying what you just mentioned :
" If preferred device is selected but it is not connected when FxSound launches, then audio playback will be through any available device. Once the preferred device is connected again, audio automatically switches to the preferred device."
doesn’t automatically the devices to headphone when I have selected a a preferred device.
In the video, you clearly didn’t select the buds as the preferred device in the General tab first, and your speakers are clearly set as the preferred device.
Please connect your buds, and set them as the preferred device. Then try again.
FxSound should remember the setting.
Thanks for the clarification, @doolhoofd . I was able to get my earbuds/headphones (device1) to automatically switch once I set them as the “preferred device.” However, there’s a major issue.
As I mentioned earlier, I use multiple audio devices, so I tested this with other headphones (device2) and a USB audio device (device3). Unfortunately, FxSound didn’t switch to device2 automatically, even though it was shown as “headphone (Realtek device)” and was already set as the preferred device. The same issue occurred with device3—FxSound failed to switch to it automatically.
After experimenting with the software, I found that the audio only switches to device1, which I initially set as the preferred device. However, when I try to do the same for device2 or device3, FxSound doesn’t function as expected.
I have to be honest—your software is the best I’ve used for years. But since the developers removed the “automatic” device switching feature, the user experience has taken a hit. I’ve been searching for alternatives, but I still trust FxSound more than any other solution, and I don’t want to switch.
Please do the FxSound community a favor by bringing back automatic device switching while keeping the preferred device setting for those who need it. You could make it a toggle option, allowing users to choose the service they prefer. Please don’t compromise this great software.
Once upon a time, an old man and his son went to the market with their donkey.
As they were walking by its side, a countryman passed them, and sneered: “You fools! What is a donkey for but to ride upon?”
So the man put his son on the donkey, and on they went.
Soon they passed a group of men, one of whom said: “See that lazy youngster: he lets his old father walk while he rides!”
So the man told the boy to get off, and got on himself.
But they hadn’t gone far when they passed two women, one of whom said to the other: “Shame on that lazy lout, to let his poor little son trudge along like that!”
At that point, the old man no longer knew what to do. At last, he took his son up before him on the donkey, and together, they rode on.
By this time, they had reached the town, and the passers-by began to jeer and point at them. The old man asked what they were scoffing at. They said: “Aren’t you ashamed of yourself, for overloading that meager donkey of yours?”
The man and the boy got off, and tried to decide how to proceed. They thought, and they thought, till at last, they cut down a pole, tied the donkey’s feet to it, and raised the pole, with the donkey hanging on it, to their shoulders.
Thus, they carried on, amid the laughter of all who saw them, until they came to the market bridge, where the donkey got one of its legs loose, and kicked out; in the struggle, it fell over into the water, and, its fore-feet being tied together, quickly drowned.
“That will teach you,” said an old man who had followed them: “Please all, and you will please none.”
@doolhoofd … i dont have time for some random stories. just give a solution … your app is buggy, accept the fact. and I’m not saying to delete the preferred device option. I’m asking to add a toggle button so that anyone could choose whatever feels better to them. Make your software customer friendly, and not just catering to just few individuals. You never know whats your end user’s preferences.
and I asked you about device 2,3 not being detected and switched over automatically… and all you did was posted some random story from the internet.
and moreover a company never posts stories on it’s forum, they just focus on the issue and try to fix the software. Please fix the defect in your app.
I am having what I think is the same problem. If not the same, sorry. But here’s what I’m finding: If my Bluetooth headphones are not connected before my FXSound starts at start-up, the only option is my Speaker in the toggle. This just started recently. The toggle only shows the speaker, and I have to restart my entire computer to make FXSound recognize the headphones.
If I my headphones lose connection for some reason the FXSound loses the option for my headphones all together and then does not even have it as an option anymore in the toggle between devices without my restarting computer all over again - essentially, restarting FX in the process, which is the only way I can find to restart FxSound.
If the bluetooth headphone is connected and recognised by Windows, then FxSound should not have any problem in making it available to get selected.
Can you please check if the bluetooth headphone is listed in Settings > System > Sound > All sound devices.
You can also run our diagnostic tool fxdiag.exe from command line to confirm if the bluetooth headphone is active and if it supports 2 channel audio.
Some bluetooth headphones have an auto off feature which turns off the headphone and disconnects when it is inactive. In this case, you can press the power button on your headphone to turn it on and reconnect.
Yes. All those are accurate on my settings. Next time it happens, I will go here and confirm that these settings are still in place.
I’m thinking then that FxSound on start up is beating my Bluetooth headphone connection from Windows and I may have to have it not run as a start-up program? But this is new for me to only see the Realtek speaker versus both. Prior it was not doing that. Prior, when FxSound opened up, it had both options. I’m a transcriptionist, so headphones usually all I use on my PC.
So the only way to add a new device now is to restart my entire PC? I don’t see a way to just restart FxSound once my headphones are connected or any other device for that matter. Is there an option to entirely restart the FX then?
FxSound disconnecting a bluetooth headphone is very unlikely.
If you want to confirm if the device is present without FxSound, you can exit FxSound instead of rebooting your PC. You can find the Exit option in the system tray icon context menu of FxSound. Right click on the FxSound icon to open the menu.
I have been there and played around with all these options. If Blutooth isn’t started with my device being on first, there is no option to add it back in without restarting. Next time it happens, I will try the Exit option and update you. But it did not work when I tried it the other day. It’s possible I just turned it off versus exit.
Hi @Chrissie,
Glad to hear that the problem is resolved.
If you again encounter the same issue, please follow the troubleshooting steps I have given and share us the screen shot of the audio device status.
