In multiple forum topics FxSound behavior of not allowing to change the Windows output device has been reported. We can change the FxSound behavior and keep FxSound Speakers as the Windows output device only when FxSound is on to process audio. When FxSound is turned off, FxSound can switch to another active playback device on the PC as the default playback device and give full control to the user to select the playback device in Windows after that.
We would like to take a survey on the expected behavior when FxSound is off and an active playback device in Windows becomes the output device.
FxSound can switch to the current output device selected in FxSound application and make it as the Windows default playback device. Audio output will continue on that device. User can then change the output device in Windows.
FxSound can switch back to the default playback device selected in Windows settings or control panel before giving full control to the user to select the output device.
Leave the current FxSound behavior as it is and do not make any changes when FxSound is turned off.
Please vote with your expectation,
Switch to the current FxSound output device
Switch to the default playback device in Windows
Leave current behavior as it is and keep FxSound Speakers as output device
I just wanna say for windows users in the new sound setting panel, you can choose “Don’t allow” to Fxsound and it will fallback to you output headphones or speakers! (will have sounds 10/10 times for me). Even if you don’t switch Fxsound power to off in the app, when you do this worst case happens is Fxsound will popup an error saying it’s not “online” and exit by itself. (*hadn’t really seen a popup when I tested, but I always had sound during this Fxsound’s “error” period), though obviously exiting the app first before pressing “Don’t allow” for “Fxsound Speakers”[1] is more elegant and demure.
Idk this maybe not even an issue anymore (it never was, at least for me), but since the post didn’t mention about this so naturally i just can’t help yapping… (another few clicks away method? Windows key + ctrl + V —> click “More volume settings” —> choose Fxsound—> Don’t allow. Xong[2])
If Don’t allow is selected for FxSound Speakers then, FxSound application cannot function as you have figured out.
So, to let users use other devices directly when FxSound is running, we have implemented allowing users to switch to other devices from system sound options if FxSound is off.
Also, if users select FxSound Speakers when FxSound is off, we will switch to a default physical output device.
omg that’s real neat, I didn’t realize this update. just tested and that works shhwell so far , but yes, I mentioned the disabling choice there which may be useful for anyone when debugging audio issues and has doubt that Fxsound is causing havoc. Don’t allow/disabling it for sure for sure let one knows right away if the app is actually the culprit (it’s my reliable first check). Definitely my takes are not necessary steps to take, but just something extra for people who like extra lol
Though I have to mention when I chaoticly unplug my headphones to go bluetooth mode while Fxsound is on and while mid-playing some video or audio, what’d happen is the output device shown blank even though bluetooth has connected. Then the media I was playing in Firefox would still allowing continued playback without audio (instead of pausing when audio=loss)[1], then when I do the trick “choosing the output in the little flyout when right-clicking Fxsound tray icon”, the device would show and have audio again, but sometimes when that audio came back to work, it crashes the video in firefox entirely and I can’t confidently say it’s Fxsound, but I feel like this doesn’t happen when I don’t have fxsound on…(mostly forget to start it, and my motto is til death I always keep all start-up apps disabled )
Sorry chief wish i could compile the words better or have a video to show you, but I spared all willpower this time. Thanks for slaying the works
