Bluetooth Headphones disconnect if there is no sound played through FxSound

As the title says, I use my headphones attached via Bluetooth on my HP Laptop, and I filter it through FxSound.

Firstly - I LOVE FxSound. What an incredible difference…what an experience! Thank you!

Now - If there is no music or any audio being generated by the computer, FxSound will disconnect my headphones from the computer, and redirect the output to the laptop internal speakers. But then, my headphones will reconnect to Bluetooth, but FxSound does nothing.
Then the headphones disconnect, and reconnect, and disconnect and reconnect, etc etc etc…again, and again, and again.

FxSound is Gandalf throwing down on the Balrog, but with instant replay over and over.

It’s worth noting that I also have a soundbar plugged into the headphone jack, but that shows up as a separate “audio out” on FxSound.

To be able to get sound through my headphones again, I have to go through the connection and selection process to reconnect the headphones. Sometimes it only works if open or pop up the audio settings page. (really weird)

My deduction: Its not the headphones. Its the relationship between HP Bluetooth vs FxSound. And it ONLY happens on Bluetooth connected headphones.
This exact same scenario happens on both my Beats Studio3 and Bose Quiet Comfort headphones.

SIDE NOTE - On the Bluetooth settings page - the connection status… it sometimes continuously switches from connected to disconnected, almost as if there was a key being pressed on the keyboard.

Here is a quick video of what I mean:

Sound can be playing, no problem with the audio, but the connect/disconnect is totally wigging out.

Then, I discovered it will continue this way WHETHER THE BLUETOOTH IS ENABLED OR SHUT OFF.
Here is the proof: Bluetooth freakout FxSound - Album on Imgur

I have set my preference to have the headphones be the primary “audio out”, hopefully this might resolve some issues…

Is anyone else experiencing this?
Can someone help me?

PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!
**I joined this forum just today to try to get this resolved. This is my first post. **

Be gentle.

Yes, I have rebooted everything.
Yes, I have tried turning it off and back on again.
Yes, FxSound has been updated.
Yes, I have looked into updating/new audio drivers
Yes, I have diagnosed “Power saving mode”, “Hardware Acceleration & Exclusive mode” and default communications devices (and more).

I have a degree in computer information systems. I work for Cisco Networks and troubleshoot computers and networks for fortune 500 companies…I have a pretty good idea what I can do with computers…but on this, I am at a loss.

Sorry about this! Do you think this is an FxSound bug @bvijay ?

Hi @Mr_Irish
Is the repeated Bluetooth headphone connect and disconnect happening only with this particular Beats Studio headphone?
FxSound detect playback device changes in the system and if in FxSound settings “Newly connected output device” is selected in preferred output device then, FxSoud will switch to a new device. Since the Bluetooth headphone is repeatedly connecting and disconnecting, it is possible that it is disconnected before FxSound sets it.
To avoid FxSound connection issues, you can select the preferred output device as “None” or any other device with stable connection.

Is the Bluetooth headphone having similar problems when you connect it to a different laptop, phone or tablet?

I’m getting the same. Even when sitting at my compter FxSound will switch over to my laptop speakers and go silent. If I check my Bluetooth it says I am still connected. When I try to switch FxSound back to Headphones it just says that they are disconnected. If I shut down and restart FxSound it usually (95%) reconnects to Headphones (my default).

I can’t read the version number (too small and faint) but I just checked for updates and it said I have the latest version. Also Windows 11 Home (current with updates, including drivers). ASUS Vivobook laptop.

Hi @Reverend_Jim, Can you see if the Bluetooth headphone supports auto-off feature to disconnect and turn off when it is not playing audio.
If the Bluetooth headphone is selected as the preferred device in FxSound, FxSound may be waiting for it to reconnect. You can select “Newly connected output device” as the preferred device option. If the Bluetooth headphone disconnects then FxSound will automatically switch to an available device.

I’ll give that a try. Thanks.

Working much better since I switched preferred to “Newly connected output device”. Thanks.
