I’ve been using FxSound since the start of the year, primarily for my go to game, Hunt Showdown, as the game relies heavily on audio. FxSound has been perfect at producing the audio profile I need in game.
Recently I found very small microstutters were introduced into the game. Very hard to quantify the stutters themselves but it initially almost seemed like an issue with vsync or my mouse. The only thing I knew had changed on my system was the recent update to FxSound (v1.1.34.0). Sure enough uninstalling it removed the stutters. Reinstalling it reintroduced the stutters. I’ve since migrated back to the original install I had (v1.28.0) and the microstutters are also absent there as well.
Unsure what changed in the latest version that would cause this.
Windows 11, 24H2, 26100.4946
i9-13900K
32GB RAM
Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master mobo
RTX 3080 (initially on driver 572.60, upgraded to latest 581.08)
fxdiag which was ran on v.1.1.34.0 while the game was running and microstutters were actively seen
Also… is there a repository of all prior releases? I only see the option to download “old” FxSound which looks like its just a single build of the (latest at the time) old build of Fx?
I’ve tested back to the last stable release (v1.1.31.0) and performance degradation is not present there. Any thoughts on why 1.1.34.0 specifically would be impacting performance of other applications?
Edit: Just for reference, following demonstrates behavior:
Clearly the true impact is somewhat lost here, given reduction to 60fps in capture, bitrate, etc. But watching at full 40k60fps I think it’s still noticeable. Just the ever so slight “movie frame” stutter effect.
Of course I know this does nothing for getting to a solution, as there’s no true data here to work through. But at the least it does provide a visual aid to the performance degradation. I’d be happy to collect anything that may be of relevance
I was going to post the same thing and I found this thread, the same thing is happening to me with the latest update, I've noticed how some games slow down, when I uninstall said version the slowdowns disappear.
v1.1.31.0 was built with JUCE 6.1.6 which is the SDK that we use for the UI.
Since JUCE 6.1.6 did not support ARM64, in v1.1.33.0 we updated the build with JUCE 8.0.6. This could be the reason for the impact in the game.
We have a pre-release version v1.1.35.0 which is built with the latest JUCE framework version 8.0.8 and JUCE claims that they have added more Direct2D bug fixes and performance improvements. You can download and try it from Release Version 1.1.35.0 · fxsound2/fxsound-app
