Windows 11. FXSound used to work. Got a popup saying “new version” so I installed it. Now running 1.1.34.0. The equalizer no longer works - no amount of sliding the bass or treble changes the sound quality of audio played. Like this for all sound-producing apps … music players, YouTube, etc. Includes Clarity, Ambience, Surround, etc… nothing changes.
FXSound is on - power button is on and is pink. If I go to my sys tray and click on the sound icon I see FXSound is the output device. My speakers are selected in the FXSound pulldown.
FX Sound is set to Default …….. though when audio is played the little green bars icon on the right of the sound popup do no not fluctuate with volume, only for the Speakers selection, don’t know if this is noteworthy.
All other audio options are disabled in Sound Settings popup.
I went through the troubleshoot steps here and unchecked Exclusive Mode.
I ran fxdiag.exe and output a .txt file but honestly, I don’t know what to make of it since it’s just repeating what I already read elsewhere such as other sound devices Disabled or Not Present.
Also, the computer has been rebooted. Restarts, shutdowns, etc. Plus, I tried uninstalling FXSound completely and reinstalling it from scratch instead of leaving the old when running the update.
Do you have any other audio processing options enabled like for example - Spatial sound?
fxdiag.exe will log the device configuration and the application volume. You can check the Audio Sessions output in the fxdiag.exe and see if the system volume is low or the application volume is low. The same can be verified in system settings Sound mixer options also.
I double checked and neither FXSound nor the speaker properties have Spatial sound enabled. I DO have something called EarTrumpet installed that I used for better control over individual volumes but A) I’ve had that installed previously with FXSound with no issues and B) I killed Ear Trumpet as a startup item - it’s no longer running in my tray - yet my FXSound issue persists.
Here’s my diag.txt from a few days ago if there’s anything in here that might explain the problem.
