The notification tray icon changes color. White when no audio, red when audio is present. Accurately reflects player status IF playing audio. Off, paused, mute and 0% volume are white. Multiple conditions, one status indicator.
Does not reflect system mute. Icon remains red when audio is present but mute is set at system level. This did cause some confusion recently but was not integral to the ‘problem’ or solution, it was just momentarily mind bending.
Globally, red indicates a stop condition. Its use here is counter-intuitive.
The information provided by the color change is not definitive. The function of color change is better used to reflect definitive information, such as output device.
This is not a feature request. I prefer to work in linux. It is possible for the taskbar icon to reflect volume status for each running app - moving the function from the systray to the taskbar by application. Very nice. In that setting, DFX icon showing output device is preferred. But linux.
