Question about different equalizer programs at the same time

FXsound and PC equaliser free as examples

should changing each freq on either of these, create exactly the same change in sound output? (eg, changing 2khz on one eq vs 2khz on the other eq)

or might you expect changing one freq on one eq, to have a different sound effect than the same freq on the other eq

the only reason I ask, is because I have some freq bands on FXsound changed, and for some reason, it seems like if I zero FXsound and use PC equaliser free to do the same adjustments, the resulting sound won’t be exactly the same. (I usually use FXsound for clarity and dynamic boost adjustment no matter what) together with VLC equaliser it means I end up so far having 3 (three) equalisers open on screen at once. which seems sort of un necessary :stuck_out_tongue: …but still, if the end result gets the right sound, that’s what matters?

Hi, quartz.
I assume you’re referring to this EQ as your example, which is basically an altered user interface for EqualizerAPO, mentioned in the summary of alternatives at the end of the main troubleshooting list.
The results are extremely likely to be different, due to a long list of possible reasons, like the varying Q factor settings of the different programs, and the amount of separation between their frequency bands, the differences in their respective signal processing methods and pipelines, the different measurements applied when changing certain frequencies (with FxSound’s band settings ranging from +12 to -12); and so on, and so forth…
The technical abyss is truly bottomless, and I’d argue that, ultimately, how simple or how complicated you want to make these things for yourself, boils down to a matter of personal preference.

Found a setting…some of my movie speech was sounding weird. Like someone was talking next to a washing machine drum or something. But it seemed to come and go. Turns out…it was one of those settings that I’m sure Microsoft thinks are

“yeah…really good…here’s a feature they’ll like”
“would you use?”
“feck no, but someone might like it”

As with much of Microsofts…er…“features” - turn off for betterness
