Latest update has broken my sound

Good day,

Since I updated to V 1.2.1.0, my sound seems totally broken. There is an echo on the voices, the bass is horribly distorted and everything just sounds off. I am using a custom saved preset based on classical with small adjustments to the equalizer that I had in place for a few years now with no issues whatsoever.

My settings are as follows:

Clarity = 10

Ambiance = 0

Surround Sound = 0

Dynamic Boost = 1

Bass Boost = 2

In Settings/Audio, I have the following settings:

Master Gain = 12dB

Normalization = 0dB

Filter Q = 2.0x (I have NO idea what this one is or does)

Balance = 0dB

Please note the previous version worked perefectly.

Can you try these default values,

You can right click on the slider to set the default values.

In v1.2.3.0 beta we have added a Restore Defaults button to reset all values to default.

@bvijay, thank you for your reply.

Ok, so I set the values you indicated above to the default values as you suggested and all it did was drop the overall volume somewhat. So I am unsure if that was the intention or not.

Also, I will ask again, what exactly is Filter Q, please?

Glad to help you.

The Q filter affects width of the frequency in the EQ band. At higher Q filter value, the band becomes narrower. For example the attached graph shows the gain around 1KHz band when Q filter is applied in the range of 1.0 to 3.0.

To replicate the audio issues that you are facing, can you please share the link to the audio content we can test and compare with the previous version.

Hi @bvijay Thank you for your reply and explanation.

Regarding a link to the audio content I am having issue with, it is any Youtube video or even the DW news live broad cast on YouTube, however, here is but one example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrfxWyCws_o

windows audio enhancements , turn it off and back on ,

if you have Dolby Atmos going , like me , turn it off and on …

set default settings in FX and put your own settings back .

sounds exactly the same to me , 10 on Clarity is a bit much …

you have to create ‘‘waves’’ , if you got 10 on one setting , the setting next to it needs to be at least in the vicinity of a 10 itself , or there’s going to be a gap in the sound .

settings are all connected , because they All play the same sound ,

same as that EQ works , you increase Clarity / highs ,

the bass and mids also need to go up to compensate

Clarity is on 5 for me , Dynamic boost 5 , Bass 6 …

Master gain is going to be at 0 for me ,

because i’m already using Windows Audio Enhancement and Dolby Atmos ,

which already pumps up the sound …

ah , yeah , restart your pc after the update , that helped too ,

it didn’t sound right to me either ,

until after the restart of my pc and setting default ,

then changing it

@ThermaL1102 Thank you for your reply.

I do not have Windows Audio enhancements or Dobly Atmos available as options on my PC.

I do not fully understand the rest of your post, however, I will look into some of your suggestions to see if I can figure them out.

As regards rebooting my PC after the latest update, I must admit I did NOT do that, so will give that a try in a bit.

just meant that if you have clarity at 10 , bass should be a bit more then 2 or what ever low number you had.
balance things out a bit more , but that’s your preference , of course …
i would first try and restart your pc , just be sure it’s not That …
or you might be looking for something you won’t find , ever :wink:
see me later , if things didn’t work out .
i also have ‘’ Enhancer for youtube ‘’ extension in my browser , has a boost button
really gives your sound an extra dimension , which you can set to your preference in the settings

OK, so I have rebooted my PC and the sound DOES seem somewhat better, now. @ThermaL1102 I will look into the Enhancer for Youtube extension, it sounds like a great idea, thank you.

try it out , i would keep in mind you have 12+ Gain in FX settings
maybe that needs to be pulled back a little once you boost the sound ,
Enhancer for youtube , also has all kinds of options ,
save resolutions you want videos to be played , color options for saturation , brightness , contrast …
Theme colors , how youyutbe shows you videos , more per row and things like that …
a lot of settings you can go through to make your experience better .
Have a good one , i’m glad it helped , maybe do a default reset and just tinker a bit till you have a good sound
and save it .

@ThermaL1102 Thanks, my Gain is set back to default as per @bvijay suggestion further up, so all good there. The boost volume on the extension does work well, so thank you for the suggestion.
