Hide FXSound in taskbar

Is there any way to make FXSound minimize to the systray? I have a program that minimizes EVERY SINGLE PROGRAM I use to the taskbar if I want it to but it doesn’t work on FXSound. I have a lot of things open at once and it would be nice to hide that in the systray once it’s minimized rather than to the toolbar.
Thanks!!!

Win 10 and Win 11 and which version of FXSound? How do you find out? I can’t see an “about” anywhere. It’s the latest version. I just started using it last week so…

A minimize to taskbar button was added recently. It’s the horizontal line next to the X at the top right of the user interface, _

Nope, that just minimizes to task bar. I want it in the system tray in the bottom right-hand corner. I want it OFF my taskbar. It’s not necessary and takes up space.

Just pressing X should do that: remove FxSound from the taskbar and minimize to tray.
Correct me if I’m wrong again.

Well, that does it. LOL I always thought X meant closing a program so never tried it. LOL

Thank you very much. Appreciate it!!!

What the systray does not do is bring the window to the top. Single right click the systray icon only toggles the taskbar icon on/off.

I am Team 'Taskbar icon not required", so toggling it via the systray only confuses me. I click the systray icon because I need the control to appear. Instead, I have to bring my mouse all the way back to the random taskbar location and click that icon to access the control.

I abandoned a new thread a few minutes ago regarding this. Encephalopathy gets in my way. I cannot clearly describe the ‘problem’. Systray toggle seems pointless and misleading.

Clicking x does not minimise it to tray - it simply closes it. I have the latest version on W10 (all previous versions have this problem… and it’s a problem with no other programme).

That’s bizarre… that shouldn’t be the case and I’ve never heard of anyone else reporting this. Could you please record this behavior and share it here?

Here’s a screen recording app you could use: https://www.loom.com/

This is happening to me too. I click the X to close to systray - this used to work until very recently but now it doesnt work. Now it just closes the window of the programme though it IS still running.

So you still see FxSound in the task tray when the window closes?

No, it’s not there. My version is 1.1.27.0. Its up to date according to the check for updates process. It used to work, but now it doesnt. I havent made any changes to anything since it stopped working.

Sorry about this. You said FxSound is still running, however, despite it not being in the task tray? How can you tell?

Hi @junkman,
There are two options in FxSound window.
image
“-” will minimize and the icon will be visible in taskbar. “X” will close the window (but not exit), and the icon will be present in system tray.
If you see a different behaviour, is it possible for you to share a short screen recording? Also please tell us the Windows version that you are using.

@james, @bvijay

OK, to clarify explicitly

When I first installed FXSound in October, when I CLOSED the window (using the cross), the programme was still visible in the systray. Now, when I CLOSE the window (using the cross) the programme is no longer visible in the systray. I do not mean minimise, which is not relevant here.

I can still ‘tell’ its still running because when I (for example) use Foobar2000 I can select the speaker out and selecting FXSound is markedly different in the audio output from the standard Realtek. Or, I can open the sound mixer and see that FXSound is active and outputting audio signal.

I hope this clarifies things  :upside_down_face:

btw its a fantastic bit of kit and Ill send a modest donation. Would be good to get the systray back but its not a catastrophe if it aint workin.

Windows 10Pro 22H2

pps - can we be clear about terminology here - Taskbar is the long bar usually at the bottom all the way along the screen with icons of apps you have open and are using - Photoshop, Word etc… Systray is a small, usually bottom right arrow, that pops out and will reveal a number of apps running in the background with small icons, such as antivirus, Microsoft defender, bluetooth etc. There is no such thing as ‘tasktray’.

UPDATE

The icon has reappeared in the Systray after 2 restarts and a windows update to latest: “2024-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5048652)”.

Thanks again for patience. It’s probably nothing to do with your app but to do with Windows. I don’t know. But, it’s back.
