* * *

If you’re having trouble getting FxSound to work properly, here’s a summary of the most relevant troubleshooting tips.

1. The Bonus Presets can be downloaded [here](https://www.fxsound.com/presets); there’s a pack of 59 extra Presets (with the 12 Bonus Presets included) [shared here](https://forum.fxsound.com/t/i-cant-download-the-preset/1697/), and all previous versions of the purple FxSound are [free to download on VideoHelp](https://www.videohelp.com/software/FxSound-/old-versions), while the [Latest Release](https://github.com/fxsound2/fxsound-app/releases/tag/latest) and [Releases](https://github.com/fxsound2/fxsound-app/releases) pages of the [FxSound GitHub](https://github.com/fxsound2) offer an overview of the changes made with each update;

2. Download the latest update and run its installer - **v1.1.27.0** at present (06/11/2024), available from [fxsound.com](http://fxsound.com/). Your version number is shown in the Help tab of the Settings menu, entered through the hamburger icon at the top right of the user interface. Alternatively, since v1.1.23.0, you can henceforth also update via the “Check for updates” button inside the Help tab;

3. Download and install the latest available updates for your computer, Windows, and sound devices;

4. If you’re having problems with a specific device, browse its manufacturer’s website first to find its manual, support pages, or troubleshooting suggestions for it, driver updates, or any proprietary software. It’s probably also worth taking a moment to try the results you get with other devices and different connection methods, to better locate the cause of your issue from the start;

5. Our free diagnostic troubleshooting tool can be downloaded [here](https://github.com/fxsound2/fxsound-app/blob/main/bin/x64/fxdiag.exe). If you know how to use Command Prompts, you can run it with the command `fxdiag.exe`, or with the addition of `fxdiag.exe > output.txt` to save the output to a text file, which you can then share on the forum for troubleshooting purposes;

6. If your problem is a lack of any sound output (a.k.a. a no-sound-type problem): first take a minute to [check all volume-related settings and sliders in your system](https://forum.fxsound.com/t/quiet-sound/3315/2). You can also use the previously-mentioned [fxdiag.exe diagnostic tool](https://github.com/fxsound2/fxsound-app/blob/main/bin/x64/fxdiag.exe) tool to check for any device volume set to zero. Next, try some different frequency settings for your devices, and see if you can find an optimal match-up. These settings are located in the Advanced tab of the device Properties (in Windows Sound), and changing them often makes a bigger difference than you’d expect. More info on supported bit depths and sampling rates in [this thread](https://forum.fxsound.com/t/fxsound-does-it-go-higher-than-24-bit-48-000-khz/273);

7. Find your machine’s specs, visit its page on its manufacturer’s website, and look for relevant driver updates that haven’t been installed yet. Using an automated updating method is easier ànd safer, and thus recommended. Updating your system incorrectly can cause serious damage, so if you lack the expertise to do this properly, skip this tip;

8. In the General tab of FxSound’s Settings, check the settings related to your [Preferred output device](https://forum.fxsound.com/t/preferred-output-device/3412) - click the link to go to the full explanation of this new function;

9. Try [running the program as Administrator](https://www.itpro.com/software/367829/how-to-make-programs-always-run-as-admin-on-windows);

10. In Windows Sound Settings, you can restore an audio device to its default values by opening its Properties, and clicking “Restore Defaults” found at the bottom of the Advanced tab. Note that restoring the FxSound Speakers device to defaults should not impact your settings or Presets. Windows 10 & 11 also provide an option to default all devices at once in the Volume Mixer. Read more in [this tutorial on howtogeek.com](https://www.howtogeek.com/880457/how-to-reset-all-audio-settings-in-windows-11/) - thanks to @Hansk for sharing;

11. If the problematic device connects via Bluetooth, try factory-resetting it or clearing the device’s Bluetooth memory, and completely removing, then re-adding it to your computer’s Bluetooth list;

12. If the problematic device connects via USB, try [turning off Power Saving](https://forum.fxsound.com/t/popping-sounds-even-after-uninstal-srry-for-bad-english/2506/12) from its Power Management tab in Device Manager;

13. If FxSound is installed as the only sound enhancement program active during audio playback, the processing pipeline will be: _Audio application [source] → Windows audio API’s → FxSound audio driver → FxSound application audio processing → Windows audio API’s → Audio hardware driver → Speakers._ If other audio processing applications are installed, the pipeline becomes more complex, and isolating the issues becomes more difficult;

14. FxSound currently only supports audio in the [PCM](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse-code_modulation) format, from output devices with 2 to 8 channels. This means Mono a.k.a. single-channel devices, and non-PCM formats like Dolby Digital or DTS, are not supported;

15. In Windows Sound Settings, FxSound should be set as the Default Device, because if FxSound is not your Default Device, it will not be able to process any audio;

16. Alternatively, in Windows Sound Settings, you can try setting FxSound as the Default Communication Device (one of the most relevant tips for issues with live chat apps like Discord, Skype, Zoom, MS Teams, Messenger, WhatsApp, etc.). This sets FxSound as both Default Device ànd Default Communication Device simultaneously, but, it will only show it as Default Device;

17. In Windows Sound Settings: **disable Exclusive Mode; disable Hardware Acceleration** (found in the Advanced tab); and **disable all Enhancements, _for all devices_** ;

18. In Windows Sound Settings, under the Communications tab, select “Do nothing” as Windows’ response when detecting communication activity;

19. In Windows Sound Settings, it often helps to disable all the devices that you don’t need (done via “Don’t allow” in Windows 11), including any hidden ones;

20. FxSound’s UI graphics are built on an OpenGL-based framework. [DirectX Extensions Viewer](https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/directx-extensions-viewer/9WZDNCRFK07L) lets you check if your graphics hardware supports OpenGL and if OpenGL is enabled;

21. If you’re experiencing laggy or choppy audio, downloading [LatencyMon](https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon) and running a scan (preferably with FxSound alternately On and Off) should help identify the cause;

22. Try uninstalling and reinstalling FxSound, or, try downloading it from a different source and installing that version instead (if you downloaded from [fxsound.com](https://fxsound.com/), try downloading from the [Microsoft Store](https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/fxsound/XP8JK4TBQ03LZ4), and vice versa);

23. Since the FxSound Audio Enhancer driver can be removed with relative impunity, you can remove the driver manually if necessary: [instructions here](https://forum.fxsound.com/t/echo-due-to-fx-and-the-original-playback-device-playing-at-the-same-time/2112/2);

24. If you’re getting the “Oops! There’s a problem with your playback device settings” error pop-up, [take a look here](https://forum.fxsound.com/t/oops-theres-an-issue-with-your-playback-device-settings-oops-error/553) first. The two most frequent causes are a disabled FxSound Speakers device, and [incorrect use or setup of Remote Desktop](https://forum.fxsound.com/t/fxsound-crashing-after-rdp-access/3079/2) (RDP);

25. The priority of FxSound’s process can be increased in Windows’ Task Manager utility (but at your own risk);

26. If all else has failed, uninstalling with [specialized full uninstaller software](https://www.techradar.com/best/best-free-software-uninstallers) might be a last-resort option worth exploring;

27. If the problem is exceptionally serious and persistent, Windows’ built-in [System Restore](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/recovery-options-in-windows-31ce2444-7de3-818c-d626-e3b5a3024da5) function is able to revert your entire computer to an earlier point in time, provided there are Restore Points available. However, this is not something to go about lightly, and you should take the time to review if the rollbacks to your system are worth the gains. Either way, FxSound only installs one relatively simple driver, and, under normal circumstances, does not create problems of this magnitude.

Honestly not unless a lot more people start asking for this. Otherwise it seems like we’d be adding complexity to the software to solve a problem that very few have. Thanks for the feedback though!

Have a nice day, the product is unmatched, it sounds incredible, but after using it for a while, the PC took 4 minutes to activate, I scanned my OS with Virus Total and it told me that the application had a Trojan, I uninstalled it and everything went back to normal, 17 seconds to start, it is possible that the site where I downloaded it is not safe, it made me sad to have to uninstall something so wonderful, can someone guide me, thank you in advance.

FxSound is crap it has 2 times disabled my sounds for some unknown reason, 1st speakers some versions ago and now HDMI (computer–\>TV) sound so program got uninstalled permanently and won’t get 3rd chance.

Other annoyance was that after each update had to uninstall it and reinstall it to even get it to work (otherwise it threw some weird error).

Just downloaded the app on my new PC and the default tuning music won’t stop playing and I don’t see any way to turn it off? Didn’t have any tuning music playing on my other PC, so not sure what to do. It just keeps playing until I force close it. and opening it starts the music again. can’t listen to anything with the enhancements with this music playing.

I love FXSound but it is the most troublesome software right next to windows itself.

the recent version totally screwed the pooch and now I can not even reinstall it , latest version installer gets stuck in the progress bar, older versions say there is a problem, go to troubleshooting page, nothing is working and I have absolutely no idea how to fix this as I need FXSound.

BTW you guys really need a Discord or something for real time faster conversations.

hi didn’t find how to post a new topic, so i use reply.

I have a problem, but not sure it’s fxsound fault; some months ago, i put my speakers on the front plugin as the rear one wasn’t worki ng anymore; and now oftenly fxsound is switching suddenly between realtek output and my second screen speakers. Any possibility to forbid fx sound to switch or forbid screen speakers to be used? (in windows i forbid the use of them).

Add: after a correct reinstall of realtek drivers for win11, everything went ok on the rear ports, but fxsound still switch from time to time from an output to another

New topic button is where you draft a post.

* * *

when you said “forbid”, I assume you want to `disable` the particular `speakers` that you don’t use? (which is the fker `realtek` or your `monitor's audio`\[1\])
—If so, you can disable them in the old `sound settings panel`: Windows key → type :“Change system sounds” → find the devices you don’t wanna use, right click and hit `disable`
2. new sound settings panel: just search for “Sound Settings”, in there the `disable` will be `don't allow` instead

excuse me for my english, you presume well, i unauthized windows to use screen speakers to play sounds. Well I’m reckon to say something had to trigger it if you are so sure about Fxsound is the only cause to your issue in this scenario. More detailed info and screenshots or recording will be nice.

But from a reasonable pov Fxsound should and would not do anything [by itself] if no audio playing such as video, notification bell, etc. so while nothing is impossible, I’m not too convinced about your info here

> Think about if you park\[1\] your car and leave the engine on, then you walk out. Do you think the car in this case would just run into something and crash? Not likely unless someone is operating it.
